The Veritas Beamline

The VERITAS beamline at MAX IV Laboratory in Lund, Sweden, is a soft X-ray beamline designed for RIXS(Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering) studies. It provides high-brightness, high-resolution X-rays in the energy range of 250-1500 eV, enabling detailed investigation of electronic structures of gas, Solid and liquids.

The manual describe experimental setup at the endstation and how to operate the beamline for experiment. For detailed beamline specifications and optics, please visit the webpage.

The Endstation and Sample Environments

We can operate in all three sample environments, Solid, Liquid and Gas. Based on the sample environment, we modify the endstation. Changes range from very subtle to more extensive.

Endstation for Solid and gas samples

For solid and gas samples, we use the Q-chamber (measurement chamber), upper chamber and load lock chamber as shown in the figure. We can also set different scattering angles, thanks to the rotatable Q-chamber. The only difference is the requirement to swap the sample rods.

Endstation for Liquid samples

For liquid samples, the changes are more extensive as we need to swap the Q-chamber with a differentially pumped chamber to accomodate the liquid jet sample rod, cold trap and ice breaker. Since this chamber is not rotatable, we are limited to 90 deg scattering angle.
